The method involves storing the call number with which a cordless telephone (11) can be reached by a higher order exchange (1) in the telephone, sending the number to a base station (9) when registering the telephone with the base station and automatically associating the number with the telephone as a multiple call number/direct dial number in the base station, which calls up and connects the telephone for an incoming call with that call number.
