Heading B1E.[Also in Divisions C2 and C5] A crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite catalyst is used in a method of preferentially reacting one of a plurality of organic compounds which and at least one other of which, is of dimensions which enable it to enter the pores of the aluminosilicate, in which method the one compound differs from .the other with respect to the catalyst by possessing a substantially higher rate of sorption, the product of the preferential reaction being itself of dimensions which enable it to pass from the crystalline aluminosilicate. Catalytically active material may be introduced into the crystal lattice e.g. zinc, cobalt, nickel and silver,by contacting the zeolite with solutions containing them. Further, catalytic centres may be obtained by exchanging part of the metal ion of the aluminosilicate with an ion exhibiting suitable catalytic activity e.g. silver, copper, gold, aluminium, hydrogen, zinc, strontium, cobalt, potassium, nickel, rare earths, ammonium, cadmium, mercury, lithium and magnesium. Reactions described include preferential cracking, hydrogenation and halogenation. |
