To adapt a microscope for different duties a number of interchangeable optical accessories are provided such as phase contrast devices, automatic exposure meters and microphotographic devices, each accessory being mounted in an elongated housing 3 one longitudinal side of which forms a plane bottom surface 5 which is detachably mounted on a plane table surface 1 of the microscope. As shown a stand 2 supporting the usual microscope features including the eye-piece has a plane surface 1 with a coupling 4, e.g. a bayonet catch, at one end to engage housing 3, the latter having rounded projections 6, 6a, at the opposite end. In the optical axis 8 is positioned a doublesided 45 degrees reflector 7 which reflects the beam from the objective round a closed loop, including the phase contrast or other optical members and a number of reflectors such as 9-12, and back to the opposite side of the 45 degrees mirror 7 for reflection into the eye-piece. For rapid removal of the accessory from the optical path of the microscope, the mirror 7 is mounted on a manually operated slide together with an intermediate optical system 15 which allows the beam from the objective to pass straight through system 15 to the eye-piece. |
