A statically earthed hose which prevents dangerous build up of static electricity and comprising a wire braid reinforcing layer 13 between a fluid-impervious tubular rubber lining 12 and a surrounding outer rubber covering 14, and preferably fitted with a typical hose coupling 20 consisting of a threaded fitting 21 inserted into an end of the hose, and a bolted clamp 22 which clamps the hose to the fitting 21 is characterized in that positive electrical continuity is established between the wire reinforcing layer 13 and the clamp 22 by means of a generally flat body 25 of electrically conductive metal which has at least one sharp prong 27 extending normal to the body 25 and penetrating the reinforcing layer 13. As shown, the body 25 engages the clamp 22 and has eight prongs. During assembly the body 25 is driven, prongs first, into the hose, then the fitting 21 is inserted into the end of the hose whereupon the clamp 22 is firmly bolted to the hose to make good electrical contact with the body 25. If the prongs 27 are long enough to penetrate the whole thickness of the hose, the fitting 21 is inserted into the hose before the member 25 is driven into it. The hose, which must be earthed before use, may contain one, or more, layers of fabric.
