PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin-film magnetic head which can realize high- performance head characteristics without complicating a manufacturing stage and a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: Insulating film patterns 16a for regulating a throat height TH are formed and simultaneously insulating film patterns 16b are formed. In forming thin-film coils 21, coil junctures 21s integrated with the thin-film coils 21 are simultaneously formed on the insulating film patterns 16b in such a manner that the positions atop the coil junctures 21s are made higher than the positions atop the thin-film coils 21. After the entire part is covered with an insulating film 22, the surface of the insulating film 22 is polished until both of upper junctures 20a and the coil junctures 21s are exposed, by which only the coil junctures 21s may be exposed without exposing the thin film coils 21. Then, unlike the case the insulating film patterns 16b are not formed, the need for a stage for forming opening segments by partially removing portions of the insulating films 22 in order to electrically connect the coil junctures 21s and coil connecting wiring 20h to be formed in a later stage is eliminated and therefore the number of the manufacturing stages may be decreased. |
