PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow the smooth rotation of tape reels by improving the contact state between the tape reels and reel retaining springs and to obviate the generation of the chips and friction heat. SOLUTION: This tape cassette has a shell 2 internally housing the tape reels 4 and 5 wound with a tape-like recording medium 3 and freely rotatably supports the tape reels by means of the reel retaining springs within the cassette shell. The reel retaining springs have a structure obtained by sticking ultra-high polymer polyethylene resin films 16 or fluororesin films 16 of 0.05 to 0.5 mm in thickness to metallic plates 18 with adhesive layers 17 in-between in at least the contact segments with the tape reels.
