Isomerization of dimethylnaphthalenes - using metal contg mordenites

Intra-mol. rearrangement of dimethylnaphthalenes (DMN) selected from 1,5-,1,6- and 2,6-DMN comprises contacting DMN with a mordenite catalyst in which >=20 wt.% is in the form of a metal-form the metal being selected from Li, Na, K, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Zn or Al at >=260 degrees C. 1,5-, 1,6- and 2,6-DMNs are inters to polyesters.
