Vitamin E is produced by (a) culturing a photosynthesising bacterium of the genus Ectothirhodospira in an aqs. medium contg. sources of C,N,S,P, and trace elements under aerobic conditions at 20-40 degrees C while continuously irradiating with light with a wavelength of 650-1000 mn and an intensity of =105 erg/cm2 sec; (b) additionally irradiating the culture during the stationary and/or logarithmic growth phase with light with a wavelength of 270-650nm with an intensity of 1016 erg/cm2 sec for between 10-9 sec and 48 hrs; (c) discontinuing the additional irradiation; (d) separating the bacteria from the culture liquid =48 hrs after ceasing the additional irradiation; (e) extracting the lipids from the bacteria with an organic solvent; and (f) separating the vitamin E from the extract by chromatography of mol. distn.
|
