[Also in Division B5] Apparatus for making bags and depositing them in the path of packaging means advancing their contents, e.g. wrapped batches of cigarettes, comprises a series of formers mounted on a chain conveyer extending vertically or horizontally above a packaging track, blanks being fed into the former path and carried past folding and bottom sealing means to a draw-off device which lays them on the track. The conveyer moves intermittently. The blanks are fed by conventional means including a glue applicator 14 and reciprocating finger 15 to overlie each former 6. Known brushes and tuckers 16 tube the blank about the former and a spring-located member 21 is released to clamp the seam. Conventional folders 17, 18, 19 form the end closure which is sealed by a heated element 20. At the draw-off position a finger 23 intercepts a slide 24 to push back the member 21. The former is in two halves 6c, 6d and the latter is movable by a fixed obstruction 28, Fig. 7, to reduce the former width so that a vertically reciprocable suction gripper 29 may pull the bag downwards off the former. The gripper 29 is rotated to turn the bag through 90 degrees about its longitudinal axis, Fig. 1, and further grippers 33 pivot clockwise downwards to lay the bag in the path of an oscillatable stop 5. The stop retains the bag while a conveyer dog 2 forces in the contents and carries the package through the machine. Several bag forming devices and packaging tracks may be arranged side by side (Fig. 2). |
