PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fault monitoring method for a portable radio terminal which can automatically detect and display a fault of a radio part if the portable radio terminal of a radio device for an article management system gets out of order. SOLUTION: This disclosed fault monitoring method for portable radio terminals automatically test the radio part of a portable radio terminal of the article management system wherein plural portable radio terminals 4 communicate with a store controller 1 through a radio base station 3 to manage articles if the frequency of retrial of radio communication between this portable radio terminal and the radio base station exceeds a prescribed frequency, and if the radio part is faulty, a display showing the radio part gets out of order is made at the display part of the portable radio terminal.
