PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply customize the display format of directory information regardless of the difference of the specification or version of a browser. SOLUTION: A request origin information and contents analyzing means 32 analyzes transmitted retrieval information and a data format which can be handled by a browser which transmits the retrieval information, and a directory data obtaining means 36 retrieves a directory server 24 based on the analyzed result of the retrieval information in the request origin information and content analyzing means 32, and obtains the retrieved result. A display data generation control means 34 generates the data in the display format designated by the user customize information stored in the storage device 26, and an HTML data generating means 40, an XML data generating means 42, and an XSL generating means 44 convert the data generated by the display data generation control means 34 into the data in the data format which can be handled by the browser.
