1,215,635. Hexafluoroantimonic acid. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 13 March, 1969 [29 March, 1968], No. 15225/68. Heading C1A. [Also in Division C5] Hexafluoroantimonic acid is prepared by reacting SbCl 5 with excess liquid HF, optionally while stripping the mixture with inert gas, e.g. N 2 or gaseous HF. Preferably the liquid HF reactant is boiling and thus provides the stripping gas in situ, the reaction being continued until evolution of HC1 vapour ceases. Excess liquid HF may then be boiled off to give product acid of desired concentration. In specific preparations the final product is SbF 5 .2HF, i.e. hexafluoroantimonic acid diluted with an equimolar amount of HF. |
