The method involves displaying the actuation and/or displacement status of the element or of elements (10-12) of a system on a display in a quantitative manner by indicating the deviation from a fixed null position and/or a freely selectable initial position. Numbers are displayed next to, above or below the element or elements represented on the display. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) An arrangement for adjusting an element in a motor vehicle; (2) Applications of the arrangement as a seat, sliding roof or air conditioning adjuster.
