The extinguisher contains an extinguisher chamber the bottom end of which is closed hermetically by a movable base plate. A heat sensitive spring of bimetal or other heat sensitive material causes the base plate to open after a few seconds' delay caused by the glowing heat. The extinguisher chamber is cleaned by the tip and ash dropping out. On cooling the spring moves the base plate up and closes the bottom end.
