The tree stand, especially for a Christmas tree, has a holding zone for the tree trunk (6) at a baseplate carrier (7), with a number of clamps (1) around it with clamping pads to hold the tree in place. The clamping pads are divided into at least two groups, each with three clamping zones. The clamping pad groups are offset against each other towards the axis of the holding zone. The clamps are held in place by a locking ratchet (4), released for opening by a pull cord (8). A cable drum ring (11) is on the baseplate (7) on plastics slides (10). A draw spring (12) gives the cable rewinding action.
