In a device for applying adhesive spots to a folding box blank and comprising an oscillating shaft carrying at least one finger, the tip of which is normally immersed in adhesive held in a receptacle and which may be raised above the level of the adhesive, by oscillation of the shaft, to transfer adhesive to the blank, the finger tip is moved beyond an intermediate position of maximum elevation above the shaft axis to a final downwardly-directed position in which it contacts the blank supported on a substantially horizontal support. As shown, a shaft 25, journalled above a receptacle 11 containing adhesive 24, is rigid with two blades 32 each formed with two fingers 34 having tips 35. Shaft 25 is turned clockwise by a handle 28 from an initial position in which the blades 32 are immersed in the adhesive 24, to a final position in which the tips 35 engage the upper surface of a blank B supported on a horizontal platform (12) to apply four spots 39 of adhesive thereto. The blades pass through slots 36 in a fixed doctor blade 37 to control the thickness of the adhesive film thereon, and the quantity of the adhesive transferred to the 'blank is determined by the length of time the tips make contact therewith. |
