PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove a coating material from the end of an electro-static photographic drum. SOLUTION: This method includes a step to simultaneously bring the coating materials on both surface of a hollow image forming drum having the coating materials on both of the inside surface and the outside surface of a first end into contact with an elastic foam (foaming) material, a step to make a liquid solvent for the coating material which does not dissolve the foam material flow in the foam material at a place where the foam material comes in contact with the first end of a drum, a step to simultaneously remove the coating material from the inside surface and the outside surface of the first end of the drum by generating a relative movement between the foam material and the drum and simultaneously wiping the inside surface and the outside surface of the first end of the drum, and a step to carry away the coating material removed from the inside surface and the outside surface of the first end of the drum by making a solvent flow from the drum.
