PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a heat developable image recording material excellent in the coated surface state while retaining good adhesion. SOLUTION: In the method for producing the heat developable image recording material with at least one image forming layer containing at least a non- photosensitive organic silver salt, a reducing agent for the organic silver salt and a binder on one face of the support and at least one latex-containing protective layer on the image forming layer, a step for coating the surface of the image forming layer to be coated with a coating solution for the protective layer by a slide coater and drying the coating solution is included and the coating solution is fed to the slide coater in the coating while allowing a polyalkylene oxide solution to flow in such a way that the solution covers the slits in the sliding surface of the coater.
