The controller has a change/selection control element for changing gears, detectors of the gearbox change position, the selection position and the minimum engine speed value and a controller for controlling the control element based on the detector outputs. If the change and selection positions are not in the neutral position when the key switch is switched on the change/selection control element is operated to return them to the neutral position.
