An image-processing device accurately reads the front and rear ends of a conveyed document. A roller (32) and a roller (61) are arranged upstream and downstream in the feed direction of the document (2), respectively. A CCD line sensor (14) reads the image between the roller (32) and the roller (61). Rotations of the rollers (32) and (61) are both transmitted to a rotary encoder (31) through a gear (62), and the amount of rotation is detected by the photointerrupter (35). The image-processing device is applicable to a card reader for reading information from a card.
