An electric motor (10) comprising a shaft (24) to which a stator (20) is fixedly mounted and a rotor (22) is rotatably mounted. The shaft (24) define s a longitudinal axis having opposing ends that are adapted to be fixedly mounted to a structural support. The stator (20) preferably comprises multip le windings (56) capable of reversible current flow so that the winding polarit y may be altered. The rotor comprises multiple magnets (74, 260) that are radially spaced about the periphery of the stator. Each of the magnets has a t least one predetermined pole. A controller (12) is coupled to the windings a nd controls the direction of the current flowing through the windings in such a manner to initiate and control the rotation of the rotor about the stator.</ SDOAB> |
