3-Phenylpyrazoles (I) are new. In (I), R1 is e.g. H, CN, NO2, halo, Hc opt. substd. by halo, CN-1-4C alkyl, 1-8C alkyl-OCOR6, Hc-Z-R6, ZR6, SO2Cl, SO2OR6 etc.; R2 is CN, CF3 or halo; R3 is H or 1-4C alkyl opt. substd. by halo; R4 = 1-4C alkyl opt. substd. by halo; R5 is H, NO2, halo, COOR29 or CONR30R31; Z is O, S, SO or SO2; Hc is alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl with up to 8 C atoms; R6 and R29 are e.g. H, 1-8C alkyl opt. substd. by halo, CN or 2-tetrahydrofuranyl, 3-7C cycloalkyl or 5-7C cycloalkenyl (opt. mono-, di- or tri-substd. by 1-3C alkyl), 3-6C alkenyl (opt. substd. by halo), 3-6C alkynyl etc.; R30 and R31 are e.g. H, Hc, 1-8C alkyl (opt. substd. by halo or CN), 1-4C alkyl (substd. by 1-4C alkoxy, 1-4C alkylthio, COOH, (1-4C alkoxy)carbonyl, 1-4C alkylsulphonyl, (3-6C cycloalkoxy)carbonyl or 1-4C alkoxy-(1-4C alkoxy)carbonyl) or 3-8C cycloalkyl etc.; or R30+R31 is tetramethylene, pentamethylene or ethyleneoxyethylene opt. mono-, di- or tri-substd. by 1-4C alkyl.
