A door fastening comprises a catch 12 at each end of a rotatable rod 5 mountable on the door and a lug projecting from a base plate 10 mountable on the door frame each catch has a pair of spaced flanges engageable beneath the lug 11 when the bar is rotated in one direction and thereafter resists movement of the bar in either direction along its axes, further rotation of the bar in the one direction and movement of the bar in a direction normal to the base plate. The rod is rotated by a handle 7 and is connected to a parallel rod 5, with a catch 12 at each end engageable with a lug 11, by two parallel rods pivoted to extensions from collars secured to each rod 5. In a modification, the lug has a rib 35 of decreasing height which extends along the mounting plate to a shoulder plate 34, the rib is engageable in a groove 42, also of decreasing height, in the catch, Fig. 11.
