PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetoresistance element and its manufacturing method which can minimize increases in the number of manufacturing steps and prevent connection failure between a functional metal film and each wiring metal film. SOLUTION: The magnetoresistance element 100 keeps a functional metal film 14 located on a part of a primary wiring metal layer 12, so that the primary wiring metal layer 12 and the functional metal film 14 are electrically connected. A functional metal film 14 and primary wiring metal layer 12 which need no electrical connection can be electrically insulated by disposing their respective patterns separately, thereby needing no interlayer insulating layers that have been necessary heretofore. This dispenses with the step of forming the interlayer insulating layer by one, and the manufacturing steps can be reduced. Even when a laminated part of the primary wiring metal layer 12 and the functional metal film 14 has a large stepwise difference, a secondary wiring metal layer 18 can electrically connect the primary wiring metal layer 12 and the functional metal film 14, so that connection failure between the primary wiring metal layer 12 and the functional metal film 14 can be prevented.
