<p>A portable terminal includes an input operation section for being operated by a user of the portable terminal to input an operation input, a storage section for storing information to be displayed on a display screen, and a display control section for reading out information to be used to display on the display screen from the storage section in response to the operation input from the input operation section and controlling the display screen to display corresponding to the operation input based on the read out information. When loading of an external storage medium into the portable terminal is detected by a loading/unloading detection section for detecting loading/unloading of an external storage medium, authentication of the external storage medium is performed based on authentication information read out from the external storage medium. When the authentication results in success, data stored in the loaded external storage medium is read out.
