Communication system with multiple network elements

The system includes several network elements (1-9) arranged in a hierarchical tree structure and an arrangement for managing and allocating the resources at a network element. Network elements arranged along a resource path (P) between a first network element (1) and a second network element (6) store the course of the resource path. The network elements along the resource path each have a database in which is stored information about the branches of the subsequent hierarchical stages of the resource path.
