PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase paper sheets which can be sorted and to improve a sorting rate by improving the reading rate of the number information and location information on the paper sheets. SOLUTION: When a control section 30 of a paper sheet sorting machine receives the information on bar codes from a reading section 6 reading the paper sheets taken out of a take-out section 4, the control section checks whether the information is a customer bar code or a bar code within an area to be recognized. In the case of the bar code within the area to be recognized, the bar code of the number information part is adopted at its is and, in the case of the customer bar code, an actual existence check is carried out by using a number information data base 37. If the customer bar code exists actually, the bar code of the number information part is adopted. If the customer bar code does not exist actually, the bar code of the number information part is not adopted and further the adoption and non-adoption of the location information part of the bar codes are checked. |
