PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel additive excellent in a balance of high desulfurizing performance, high safety and the noncorrosiveness of a furnace material. SOLUTION: This steel additive contains inorganic powder of 90 to 99% and carbon black powder of 0.032 mm or less by 1 to 10%, and the inorganic powder is composed of 10 to 94% CaO, 3 to 87% CaCN2 and inorganic substance other than CaO, CaCN2 and 0.032 mm or less carbon black powder by 3 to 87%.
