PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten total printing time and lessen the variability of time for initiating the printing process. SOLUTION: When a printing command is received (step 31), a judgment whether printing at an intermediate velocity is possible is made based on the accumulated volume of imaging data (step 32). When the judgment result is 'affirmative', a parameter for the printing at an intermediate velocity is set (step 33) and the printing at an intermediate velocity is performed (step 34). When the appropriate volume of imaging data for printing at a high velocity is accumulated in a printing buffer 15 during printing (step 35), the velocity is increased to a high level (step 36), and the printing process at a high velocity is carried out (step 37). On the contrary, the accumulated volume of the imaging data is only appropriate for printing at an intermediate velocity (step 35), the velocity is lowered from high to intermediate (step 32-step 34).
