PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrict variations in preload by stabilizing the setting of an allowance δ for a pocket and minimizing initial setting of a clearance in an axle bearing composed of an outer member having a double raceway surface at its inner periphery and attached to a vehicle body and inner members having a wheel mounting flange and rotatably supported with a double ball interposed between the outer member and the inner members. SOLUTION: Projecting parts 36, 46 of larger diameters than the inscribed circle diameter of the ball 20 are provided in the respective vicinities of the groove bottoms of raceway surfaces 34, 44 of the inner members 30, 40. Differences δ in radius between the groove bottom diameters of the raceway surfaces 44 of the inner members 30, 40 and the outside diameters of the projecting parts 36, 46 and differences L in center, extending from the groove bottoms of the raceway surfaces 34, 44 to small end faces 38, 48, are controlled to within specified values through simultaneous grinding of the raceway surfaces 34, 44 of the inner members 30, 40, the outer peripheral surfaces of the projecting parts 36, 46 and the small end faces 38, 48. |
