PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silver-based antibacterial compound exhibiting excellent antibacterial power even at a small amount, keeping the antibacterial power, having low toxicity and resistant to discoloration with light and to provide an antibacterial composition produced by combining the above agent with a polymer substance effective for suppressing the discoloration with light. SOLUTION: The objective silver-based antibacterial compound is composed of a silver compound having phenyl group or naphthalene group in the molecule. The silver-based antibacterial composition is composed of the above silver-based antibacterial compound in an amount of 1-50 ppm by weight, 0.05-0.5 wt.% polymer emulsion selected from acrylic emulsion, natural rubber latex, silicone emulsion, fluororesin emulsion and polyurethane emulsion and the remaining part of one or more solvents or dispersion media selected from water, ammonia water and dimethyl sulfoxide. |
