PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize the physical properties of powder over the whole period of continuous casting operation, thereby to prevent operational troubles such as break out and moreover to produce a B-containing steel slab free from surface defects. SOLUTION: This powder for continuous casting for continuously casting molten steel containing B of 0.1% or more contains, by weight, CaO and SiO2 of 35 to 70% by CaO+SiO2 and also in the range of CaO/SiO2: 3.0 or more, furthermore contains Al2O3 of 15 to 30% and B2O3 of 5 to 30% and has the characteristics that the melting point is 950 to 1250 deg.C, and viscosity at 1,300 deg.C is 0.8 to 3.0 poise.
