PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a metal plate having different thickness whose thickness is different in the width direction. SOLUTION: After forming a built-up slab 4 by overlapping both surfaces or one surface of a slab 1 of a rolled stock with lapping materials 2A, 2B which cover prescribed ranges in the width direction from both edges of the slab 1 and welding the peripheral parts except a side which is situated on the central side of the slab 1 of the lapping materials 2A, 2B to the slab 1, the built-up slab 4 is heated, rolled with flat rolls and formed into a metal plate 5 having a prescribed thickness. Next, by cutting and removing the welded peripheral edges of that metal plate 5 and separating the lapping materials 2A, 2B from the metal plate 5, the metal plate 6 having different thickness where the thicknesses t2 in parts near to edges of which are thinner than the thickness t1 in the middle part in the width direction is obtained.
