PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new 1-(4-oxocyclohexyl)-1-(4'-hydroxyphenyl)cycloalkane, and to provide a method for industrially advantageously producing the above new compound. SOLUTION: This new compound is a 1-(4-oxocyclohexyl)-1-(4'-hydroxyphenyl) cycloalkane of the general formula (I), wherein, R is a 1-4C alkyl; X is a 5-6C cycloalkylidene; n is an integer of 0-3; and the above cycloalkylidene group may bear 1-3 1-12C alkyl group(s) bound to the carbon atom(s) on the ring. This new compound is obtained by selective hydrogenation of a 4,4'- cycloalkylidenebisphenol of the general formula (II) wherein, R, X and n are each the same as described above in a solvent in the presence of a palladium catalyst.
