PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a compact printing apparatus of a superior cost performance and increase a life of a printing wire. SOLUTION: This printing apparatus has a printing head 10 with printing wires 13 and 14 in a plurality of rows A and B and a driving circuit 32 for driving the printing wires by one row. The rows are switched when one row comes to the end of life or the wire is broken. A printing position deviation because of a row distance L of the printing head 10 is automatically corrected. The apparatus has means 15 for detecting a state of every wire of the printing head 10 and automatically switches or warns of switching the printing wire rows based on the detected information. A use basis is set to judge the state of the wires, which is changed in accordance with a required printing quality. A central control part 22 is connected via a circuit 21 to a control part 30. A state of the printing head 10 of each terminal is monitored and managed at the center.
