PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high quality image by independently executing correction calculations for the rise part and the fall part of the density so as to provide different correction amounts each to the rise part and the fall part, and enabling correction tuning of the density decline in the density rise part of a printed image, and a tailing phenomenon in the fall part. SOLUTION: This device comprises a judging means for judging the rise part and the fall part of the density in a character or image from the size difference of focused pixel data Dn of the present line n and focused pixel data Dn-1 of the previous line n-1, and a correction calculating means for executing a correction calculation for each of the density rise part and the fall part by different calculation formulae based on the judgment result. The judging means and the correction calculating means are assembled for each of Y(yellow), M(magenta), C(cyan), and K(black) slave substrates 101-104 as a part of the function of a slave CPU 38 and a head drive 50.
