A component for a stud welding tool comprises a cylindrical fluid chamber 142 having an enlarged portion 144 at one end and a flange 160 at the other end, a coil core 138 extending from the enlarged portion 144, terminal means 148 on the enlarged portion to receive a welding current cable and means 156 on the enlarged portion spaced from the terminal means to receive a fluid flow line, the means 156 being connected by a passage 152 to the chamber 142. A tool for arc welding studs includes a body 10 in six parts of insulating material, namely a main housing 12, a rear end cap 14, a front wall member 16, a handle 18, a main handle cover 20 and a short cover 22. The housing 12 is hollow, forming a chamber 24 and has a lower flat surface 30 with an opening 32 communicating with the chamber 24, locating pins 34 being moulded into the housing 12 to project from the surface 30. Internally threaded pins 36 also extend from the front of the housing and the front member 16 having a rear surface co-operating with the front end surface of the housing has passages 42, 44 for screws to engage the pins 36 and has recesses 50, 52 to receive the pins 36. The handle 18 terminates in a flat upper surface 58 having an opening 60 communicating with a chamber 62 in the handle and with the opening 32 of the housing. A trough 64 in the handle is provided to receive electrical conductors. The cover 20 has openings 90, 92 to receive fasteners for securing the cover to the handle to provide chambers for electrical cables and a fluid line and the member 22 has openings 94 for fasteners to clamp the cables and fluid lines in place. When the handle is secured to the housing 12 it is preferably secured by epoxy adhesive. Within the housing of the assembled body a lifting coil 128 is provided to receive the core 138 spring urged away from the coil, a chuck being carried in an adaptor 164 secured to the flange 160. A piston 174 is provided in the chamber supplied by fluid lines 158, 172 and feeds studs supplied from the side into the chuck adaptor. The main housing of the tool may be fixed to a plate instead of to the handle, the plate being affixed to a fixture carrying a number of tools. Two of the housings may be secured to a single handle.
