1,267,222. Valves. ROCKWELL MFG. CO. 10 April, 1969 [12 April, 1968], No. 18318/69. Heading F2V. A butterfly valve closure member 75 comprises a groove 78 with a seal-ring 83, e.g. of synthetic rubber, adapted to seal on to a seat 92 in the closed position, the ring 83 being cemented to the sides 81 of the groove 78 with a space 89 into which the ring can deform, and a passageway 91 to vent the space. The ring can be disposed in a groove in the seat 92, Fig. 2a (not shown). In Fig. 6 (not shown), sealing rings (126) are disposed in seat members (116), (117) of a spherical plug valve. The gate valve in Figs. 7, 8 (not shown), has annular resilient metal sealing rings (156) of generally U-shaped cross-section, with a reinforcing ring (163), clamped in position by a ring (142), and a space (164) vented at (166) allows for ring deformation. The ring (163) can be replaced by a spring. In Fig. 9 (not shown), a globe valve 170 has a sealing ring 182, e.g. of urethane, with a resilient tube (186) moulded therein to form a space (188) which is vented by a passageway (187). The invention is also stated to be applicable to wedge, gate, and spool valves. |
