PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress deterioration of exhaust emission, by presenting technique capable of mixing combustible gas with air without providing an exclusive use space for mixing combustible gas with air to prevent unwonted temperature drop of an exhaust emission control catalyst at ordinary operation time, in a device attaining temperature increasing of the exhaust emission control cata lyst by burning a combustible mixture supplied from an internal combustion engine in an exhaust passage upstream from the exhaust emission control cata lyst. SOLUTION: This temperature raining device for a catalyst of an internal combustion engine is characterized by providing a subsidiary-exhaust emission control catalyst in an exhaust passage upstream from a main exhaust emission control catalyst which is a subject of heating, by mixing fuel supplied from the internal combustion engine with air in the sub-exhaust purifying catalyst, so as to form a satisfactory combustible mixture fuely mixing fuel and air with each other, without having to provide an exclusive use premixing chamber. |
