PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique applicable advantageously from the viewpoint of the cost in the case plating is applied on a pulley for CVT composed of steel and the other metallic material and moreover capable of sufficiently securing the adhesion between the plating layer and the pulley for CVT. SOLUTION: In the method for applying plating on a pulley for CVT containing a shaft part composed of steel and a pulley part composed of metals electrochemically baser than the steel such as an Al alloy, a stage in which the pulley for CVT is subjected to pretreatment, a stage in which a substrate plating layer is formed over the shaft part and the pulley part in the pulley for CVT by a plating solution in which substitution reaction is hard to occur with the metals composing those parts such as a copper plating solution and a stage in which a surface plating layer is formed, e.g. by Ni or Cr are included. Moreover, as the pretreating stage, PR electrolysis treatment in which electrolysis is executed in such a manner that the direction of the electric current is periodically changed in a state in which the pulley for CVT is dipped into an electrolytic solution as an electrode is performed.
