PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a transparent or translucent softener composition hardly causing deterioration of the color and perfume during preservation. SOLUTION: This transparent or translucent softener composition contains (a) a fluorescent whitening agent having the maximum value of absorbance within the wave length region of 280-400 nm, (b) a tertiary amine having at least one 14-20C alkenyl group in the molecule, or a quaternized material thereof, (c) a nonionic surfactant and (d) a compound having 20-31δ-value calculated by a specific equation, and 100-350 deg.C boiling point, in a specified proportion.
