PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a PVA resin composition which exhibits an ultraviolet absorption capability improved without detriment to the film-forming capability, film strengths, and clarity inherent in a PVA resin and of which the ultraviolet absorption capability is hardly degraded by the bleed out of an ultraviolet absorber. SOLUTION: This composition is prepared by compounding 100 pts.wt. polyvinyl alcohol having a degree of saponification of 60 mol% or higher and a viscosity of a 4% aqueous solution (at 20 deg.C) of 1.2 mPa.s with 1-75 pts.wt. ultraviolet- absorbing water-soluble polymer having a mol.wt. of 3,000 or higher.
