PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the method for controlling or adjusting the horizontal position of a body of an automobile with a horizontal position adjusting device for recognizing as soon as possible the placement of the body on the ground or a lifting table in order to avoid the undesired falling down of a vehicle horizontal position. SOLUTION: The method comprises a process for measuring the horizontal position of the vehicle to a reference point; a process for starting the releasing process of the body when the measured horizontal position is in specified horizontal position or higher; a process for inspecting whether the body is lowered or not based on a reference value from the directly measured horizontal position before the releasing process of the body after starting the releasing process in a control unit 10; and a process for interrupting the releasing process by the control unit when the body does loweres. The horizontal position of the body of the automobile is controlled or adjusted with a horizontal position adjusting device having adjusting members 2a, 2b for lowering the horizontal position of the body by releasing a working medium from the adjusting members 2a, 2b and the control unit 10.
