1,227,777. Preventing lateral canting. INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT CO. ETABS. 30 May, 1968 [19 June, 1967], No. 25910/68. Heading B7D. A vehicle suspension for a pair of front or rear wheels 1, 4 of a vehicle comprises a pair of aligned transverse torsion bars 23, 27 which are each connected, as by a link 26, 30, to a respective suspension arm 2, 5 and at their opposed ends act on electric or hydraulic distributers 19, 22 which permit free communication between the oil chambers 10, 16 of a pair of hydropneumatic suspension springs when there is no relative rotation between the distributers but on relative rotation of the distributers connect one oil chamber to a pressure fluid source and the other oil chamber to a fluid return circuit to correct trim on roll. The opposed faces 31, 32 of the distributers have corresponding ports 34, 42, connected to pressure inlet lines 54, 43, ports 35, 44 connected to the oil chambers 20, 21 and exhaust ports 36, 37, 41, 45. On relative rotation of the faces 31, 32 due to vehicle roll the ports 35, 44 and hence the oil chambers are connected respectively to the requisite inlet and exhaust ports to move the spring pistons 8, 14 to cancel the roll. Friction in the support bearings of the distributers effectively provides a time delay in their operation. In a modification (Fig. 5) the opposed distributer faces abut a fixed member 53 with a single feed line 54 and single exhaust line 55.
|
