PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cloth push-up device for a sewing machine capable of implementing two sage pressing with a simple structure. SOLUTION: This sewing machine comprises a cloth presser 18 capable of moving up/down to press a cloth reception surface 22 when it is normally energized downward, a solenoid 100 to raise the presser 18 against the energization force so as to separate it from the surface 22. and a control means 122 to control attraction force of the solenoid 100. In the machine, engaging force application means 108a, 116 to the outer circumference of the planger 108 is provided in the movable area of a plunger 108 of the solenoid 100, and through the control of the control means to the attraction force of the solenoid 108, the cloth presser 18 can be stopped at an intermediate position between the lowermost position and the uppermost position by the engaging force application means.
