PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric sewing machine capable of forming same stitches or seams of high quality when stitches of specified pattern is formed through designation of needle swing width. SOLUTION: Stitches are formed on a cloth by the cooperation of a needle moved up/down by a main motor rotating a main spindle and a cloth feeder having a cloth feeding gear which comes out on and retreats from a throat plate in association with the up/down movement of the needle. In forming stitches of specified needle swing pattern, the width of needle swing is divided by the needle application number of needle swing pattern so as to obtain one needle swing width (S2). When there is a number that can not be divided, it is dispersed according to a specified rule, and then a correction stitch is formed. For example, the correction stitch is dispersed almost equally on the needle swing pattern (S10), the correction stitches are equally disposed, and thereby the same pattern stitches can be formed.
