PURPOSE: An apparatus for converting synchronous/asynchronous data for data communication is provided to perform a high-speed data communication between a synchronous device and an asynchronous device by converting synchronous data to asynchronous data or the asynchronous data to the synchronous data according to a data transmitting/receiving speed. CONSTITUTION: A transmission portion(10) receives asynchronous data from an asynchronous device, stored the asynchronous data to an internal buffer, and outputs the stored asynchronous data according to a transmitting synchronous clock. The first multiplexer(11) outputs selectively an output signal of the transmission portion(10) and the asynchronous data of the asynchronous device. A reception portion(12) receives synchronous data, stores the synchronous data to an internal buffer, and detects a stop bit of the stored synchronous data in order to convert the synchronous data to the asynchronous data. The second multiplexer(13) outputs selectively the output signal of the reception portion(12) and the synchronous data of the synchronous device. A clock generator(14) generates an operating clock for determining a data conversion speed of the transmission portion(10) and the reception portion(12). A control portion(15) decides a frequency division ratio of the clock generator(14) and controls operations of each component. A crystal oscillator(16) generates a clock signal according to a control signal of the control portion(15).
