Material spools (23, 29, 55) are carried in rotary bearings on a supply trolley (3), spaced from the quilting machine (1) on its input side. The trolley runs on rails (5) orientated transversely with respect to the material feed direction (A). The trolley is advanced by a drive motor (17) to follow material movement. Preferred features: The supply trolley has a frame with two long bearers (8) and a pair of cross braces interconnecting them. Rollers are carried in bearings on the frame, and run on the rails. Pairs of columns (19, 27) are fastened to the supply trolley, to support the spools of material, which are motor- (21, 31, 63) driven. A third pair of columns fastened to the trolley carries a driven, pressure-roller pair (37, 39). One is pressed against the other, pneumatically or hydraulically. Two jockey rollers (36, 38) on the supply trolley form material buffer storage. Bands of material unwind directly to the sewing table or may be temporarily accommodated in a trough (47) ahead of it. There is a walkway (65) between second and third column pairs, supported on the floor. Tubular material feed rollers (48, 50) are mounted on the trolley, for rotation and axial motion.
