Biological treatment of polluting or odoriferous gases produced by a plant treating waste water containing grease, sulfur compounds, fatty acid derivatives and ammonia compounds comprises collecting the gas in containers at below atmospheric pressure and delivering to a reactor where it contacts a circulating liquor having a high concentration of activated sludge. The contact zone is aerated to maintain aerobic conditions. Greasy material is introduced into the zone. The mixture of gas, liquor and greasy material passes to an aerobic reaction zone of the reactor where the grease and gas are transformed. An Independent claim is included for an apparatus for performing the above includes the reactor with an impermeable skirt delimiting the contact zone, a mixer, an impermeable wall and an air injector maintaining aerobic conditions. Preferred Features: A system of sealing flaps enable foam produced in the contact zone to pass into the reaction zone. The grease -gas mixture depends upon the amount of greasy material to be treated. The circulation of the liquor depends upon the reactor volume and the amount of gas to be treated. |
