PURPOSE: A device for automatically controlling an adaptive display speed of a motion picture is provided to quicken a playback speed according to the number of frames between cuts in a fast mode, and to slowly proceed the playback speed according to a video movement change ratio by detecting different videos in a slow mode, so as to adaptively change the playback speed according to video dynamic characteristics. CONSTITUTION: A speed control information detection module(102) detects motion picture change degrees in a variable-speed section of a digital motion picture file(101). The module(102) comprises a cut detection module(102a) and a different video detection module(102b). The cut detection module(102a) extracts cuts from a motion picture and calculates the number of frames between the cuts. The different video detection module(102b) finds different videos between the frames, and stores the different videos. The first storage module(103) stores motion picture data for a variable speed including detection information of the modules(102a, 102b). The second storage module(104) stores motion picture data for a constant speed. A display module(105) decides the number of the frames between the cuts and video change degrees from the different videos between the frames, and increases or decreases a display speed of a variable speed section.
